Vintage Seed Catalog Design

While exploring The Smithsonian Institution Libraries’ website I stumbled upon an amazingĀ collection of gorgeous seed and nursery catalogues dating from 1830 to present. The illustrations and hand drawn typography are not only stunning but so relevant to today’s design trends. They also offer a fun peak into the language surrounding the food of yesteryear: “Good Crops, A Matter of Common Sense”, “A grand good tomato, decidedly distinct from all others” and “The Lazy Wifes’ Pole Bean” are a few of my favorite headlines.
